CLEVELAND, OH – The White Sox and the Indians resumed their three game set this evening after the Indians outlasted the White Sox in what turned into a surprising pitchers duel on Tuesday afternoon at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
The White Sox jumped out to an early lead on Wednesday evening when Matt Davidson laced a line-drive single into left field, scoring Cody Asche and Avisail Garcia, giving the White Sox an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. The two-RBI single was the fourth and fifth RBI of the season for Davidson, who has had a tremendous start to the 2017 campaign in limited opportunities thus far.
Derek Holland would turn in a quality start for the White Sox, tossing 6.0 innings of scoreless work, allowing only only one hit while striking out four and walking four over the course of his outing.
David Robertson closed the ninth inning out for the White Sox, giving them a 2-1 win, and evening the series up at one-a-piece.
Matt Davidson: 1-4, 2 RBI
Derek Holland: 6.0 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 4 K, 4 BB
Danny Salazar: 6.0 IP, 2 R, 4 H, 11 K, 2 BB
The White Sox turned in another solid performance from the starting rotation this evening with Derek Holland tossing six scoreless innings to pick up his first victory off the season.
Matt Davidson drove in the lone runs of the game with his second inning two-RBI single, continuing his hot start to the 2017 season despite a limited amount of playing time.
The White Sox pitching staff allowed only three hits on the evening, a solid follow up to their excellent pitching performance on Tuesday afternoon against the Indians.
Outside of the Davidson RBI single in the second, the White Sox lineup remained silent once again this evening.
On-Deck: The White Sox and the Indians will conclude their three game series on Thursday evening at Progressive Field, as the White Sox send Miguel Gonzalez to the hill to oppose Josh Tomlin of the Cleveland Indians.
