The Chicago Cubs are back in action today as they look to get Game 4 of their NLDS series with the Washington Nationals in after it was washed away by the rain on Tuesday afternoon.
The Cubs and the Washington Nationals are set for a 3:08 PM central time start at Wrigley Field and the forecast looks like all of the rain should be out of the area by the early afternoon. Jake Arrieta will take the ball for the Cubs who are one victory away from advancing to the National League Championship Series for the third consecutive season.
Arrieta finished the 2017 regular season with a 14-10 record a 3.53 ERA and 163 strikeouts, but was battling a hamstring injury towards the end of the season. Arrieta said after his final regular season start against the Cardinals on September 26, that he was still experiencing discomfort in the injured hamstring but has had an extended period of rest leading up to his first postseason start of this year. Arrieta has made seven previous postseason starts with the Cubs, and carries a 3.64 ERA into his eight start this afternoon.
Arrieta, who is a free agent after this season and is not likely in the plans moving forward on the North Side, is hoping that this isn’t his final start in a Cubs uniform this Postseason.
“Just trying to take everything in, look around a bit more,” Arrieta said. “Trying to kind of capture some mental images of Wrigley [Field] and the fan base and my teammates, and just to try and remember as much as I can about these last couple weeks if it’s my last time in this uniform.”
Despite having an additional 24 hours before the fourth game of this series, Nationals’ Manager Dusty Baker is still opting to go with the originally scheduled starter, Tanner Roark instead of Stephen Strasburg who is now on full rest as of today. Baker cited Strasburg being under the weather for the reason he is going with Roark today in Game 4, and elimination game for the Nats’.
Just the most recent questionable move that Dusty Baker has made in handling pitching staffs throughout his managerial career, but hopefully the move helps the Cubs end this series in Chicago this evening.
