Home Runs Help White Sox Top Diamondbacks 6-5

White Sox

GLENDALE, Ariz – The Chicago White Sox brought out the bats early and often today, as they scored at least one run in innings three through six. The six runs this afternoon were enough support to get starting pitcher Reynaldo Lopez the win. Despite a late rally by the Arizona Diamondbacks, the White Sox were able to hang on and win by one run.

Reynaldo Lopez had a good outing today, even though the Diamondbacks were able to muster two hits and drew a walk in the top of the first inning. After that frame, Lopez settled down and cruised his way through 4.1 innings pitched without giving up a run and striking out one batter.

Newly acquired left-hander Robbie Ross made his first appearance as a member of the White Sox today. Ross gave up a base hit to the first batter he faced, but directly after he served up a double play that would eliminate the base runner. Ross finished the day going 1.2 innings allowing one hit and striking out two. For his first day of work with a new team, Ross looked calm and composed out on the mound.

The White Sox smacked three home runs today to help boost them to victory. Eloy Jimenez picked up right where he left off in his last plate appearance against the Cubs by hitting an opposite-field home run to give the White Sox a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Impressively, Eloy would also finish the day with a triple and a walk in three plate appearances.

Jose Abreu hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning for his second home run this spring. Yoan Moncada joined the home run party, belting his first homer of Spring Training from the left-side of the plate in the following inning. Other offensive highlights from today include an RBI double by Tim Anderson and an RBI single by Yolmer Sanchez.

Nicky Delmonico went down with an injury today while playing left field. There was a pop fly that was hit in shallow left, no one called for it, and it resulted in a collision that caused Nicky to be down for a few minutes and eventually taken out of the game. As of now, he’s been diagnosed with a partially torn shoulder, but there will be a further evaluation tomorrow.

The White Sox had a 6-0 lead going into the top of the 7th inning with Dane Dunning on the mound. Dane struggled throughout his day, giving up a hit or a walk to the first five batters that he faced. He was frustrated out on the mound and it was clear as he threw a wild pitch, gave up five hits, five runs, and walked a batter while only making it through 0.2 innings pitched.

Despite the Diamondbacks making this a close game, the White Sox were able to hang on and win 6-5 as Chris Beck and Brian Clark were able to shut down the Diamondbacks for the final 2.1 innings. It was an exciting game with all of the home runs, but unfortunately, they were overshadowed by another injury this team has suffered in Spring Training.

Player of the Game: Eloy Jimenez (2-2 HR, 3B, BB, RBI, 2R)

Next Game: Monday, March 12. 8:40 CT with Dylan Cease on the mound.
