White Sox: Weekend Farm Report, August 17-19

This weekend on the farm featured a big promotion for Michael Kopech, a couple of walk-off wins, and more. Sean Williams fills you in on all the action from the White Sox farm system this past weekend.

This weekend on the farm featured some big news with Michael Kopech being promoted to Chicago. The White Sox’ top pitching prospect will make his highly-anticipated MLB debut on Tuesday, August 21. Aside from that, this weekend also featured some walk-off wins and the return of Welington Castillo. Let’s take a look at all of the action throughout the White Sox farm system this past weekend:

Charlotte Knights

The Charlotte Knights lost on Friday in heartbreaking fashion. After scoring two runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game, the Louisville Bats would score one run in the top half of the tenth inning to beat the Knights 4-3. Here are some of the performances from the game:

On Saturday, the Knights and the Bats would be involved in another ten inning contest, however, the Knights would prevail this time as Matt Skole had a walk-off single to seal a 7-6 victory. Here are some of the performances from the walk-off win:


In the fourth and final game of the four-game series, The Knights would lose to the Bats 3-1. The Knights struggled to put runs on the board throughout the entire game and were unable to score until the ninth inning. Here are some of the performances from Sunday’s game:

The Charlotte Knights wrap up their weekend with an overall record of 56-67. They will begin a five-game series vs. Norfolk on Tuesday with a double header on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

Birmingham Barons

The Birmingham Barons posted a winning record this weekend and got things started with a 6-1 win over the Tennessee Smokies on Friday, avoiding a sweep in the four-game series. Here are some of the performances from the victory:

On Saturday, The Barons would lose to the Smokies 2-1 in the series finale. The Smokies would break a 1-1 tie in the top of the ninth as they scored one run to boost themselves to victory. Here are some of the performances from the loss:


The Birmingham Barons opened up a five-game road series against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp with a 6-3 win on Sunday. The Barons quickly got on the scoreboard and held the lead throughout the entire game. Here are some of the performances from Sunday’s win:

The Birmingham Barons improve to an overall record of 59-65. The team will continue their series against the Jumbo Shrimp tonight, with four more games against them before returning home to face the Jackson Generals.

Winston-Salem Dash

It was another successful weekend for the Winston-Salem Dash, who had four games and won all of them. On Friday, the Dash put four runs on the board by the end of the second inning and eventually beat the Wilmington Blue Rocks 4-3. Here are some of the performances from Friday’s win:

On Saturday, the Dash were scheduled to play a double header, however, the second game would be postponed until Sunday. In the lone game on Saturday, the Dash won a 12-11 shootout vs. the Blue Rocks by scoring three runs in the ninth and one run in the tenth to get the win. Here are some of the performances from the victory:

Sunday was the most exciting day for the Winston-Salem Dash, especially if your name is Yermin Mercedes. In the first game of the double header, with the Dash down by one run in the bottom of the eighth, Yermin smacked a walk-off home run to give the Dash a 5-3 win over the Wilmington Blue Rocks. Here are some of the performances from the first game:


The fun didn’t stop there for Yermin Mercedes. In game two of the double header, Yermin had another walk-off hit. This time it was a walk-off single to give the Dash a 4-3 win and a sweep of the Wilmington Blue Rocks. Here are some of the performances from game two on Sunday:

After the four-game sweep, the Winston-Salem Dash improve to an overall record of 75-48. Up next for the Dash is a four-game series against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans starting on Tuesday.

Kannapolis Intimidators

The Intimidators wrapped up their series with the Augusta GreenJackets on Friday with a 6-3 win and a sweep of the Green Jackets. The Intimidators would break a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the sixth, plating three runs which was more than enough for them to get the victory. Here are some of the performances from Friday’s win:

On Saturday, the Intimidators opened up a series with the Greensboro Grass Hoppers and were handed a 7-2 loss. After being tied 1-1 through the early parts of the game, the Grass Hoppers pulled away and eventually put the game out of reach. The game would be suspended and resumed on Sunday. Here are some of the performances from the loss on Saturday night/Sunday afternoon:

The Intimidators were supposed to have another game on Sunday at the conclusion of the resumed game from Saturday night. However, mother nature would not cooperate and the double header is pushed back to today. After a split weekend, the Kannapolis Intimidators have an overall record of 65-55. They will have a double header today and Tuesday to wrap up their series with the Greensboro Grass Hoppers.

Great Falls Voyagers

The Great Falls Voyagers opened up a three-game road series against the Idaho Falls Chukars on Friday. The Voyagers and Chukars would play ten innings, with the Voyagers scoring two in the top half of the frame to earn a 3-2 win. Here are some of the performances from Friday’s win:

On Saturday, the Voyagers were involved in another one run game, only this time they would come up short. They held a 4-0 lead throughout most of the game, but would see that lead vanish as the Chukars came back to win 6-5. Here are some of the performances from the loss on Saturday night:

In the rubber match of the series, the Voyagers would get the best of the Chukars in an 8-5 win. The Voyagers would score four total runs in the final three innings to propel themselves to victory. Here are some of the performances from Sunday’s win:

The Great Falls Voyagers now have an overall record of 28-31 after the weekend. Up next is a four-game road series against the Ogden Raptors starting tonight.

AZL White Sox

The AZL White Sox opened their weekend with a matchup against the AZL Indians 1, who they have played a lot recently. After a four run rally in the second inning, the White Sox would cruise through the rest of the game on their way to a 6-2 win. Here are some of the performances from the win:

On Saturday, the AZL White Sox would continue their winning ways as they beat the AZL Indians 2 5-4. The White Sox would score two runs in the top of the ninth and shut down the Indians in the bottom half of the frame to get the win. Here are some of the performances from the victory on Saturday night:

The AZL White Sox’ hot streak would come to an end on Sunday as the team lost to the AZL Reds 4-3. The White Sox never saw a lead in this one and fell short in their late attempt at a comeback. Here are some of the performances from Sunday’s game:

After another successful weekend for the AZL White Sox, their overall record improves to 28-22. They will head to Scottsdale, Arizona to face the AZL Giants Black tonight.
