Believe it or not, the NFL regular season is almost over. Week 14 is already here and teams are starting to clinch playoff spots. Every year without fail, I take the NFL season for granted. As the regular season winds down there will be plenty of opportunities to make some extra cash.
That’s where this article comes in. Myself and Matt Schoolfield are both avid DraftKings players, so we decided to start a weekly article where we both will give our three favorite plays on the Sunday main slate.
Our picks will be players that are less expensive and will help get the high priced “studs” into your lineups.
Let’s get into it.
QB Aaron Rodgers ($6K)
Rodgers got his way with the firing of Mike McCarthy and he’s hearing some of the people questioning him. He’s going to come out and try to throw for six TD’s in the first half. The Falcons defense is bad and I don’t see any way they slow down a motivated and angry Aaron Rodgers. He’s also just the seventh most expensive QB on the main slate on DraftKings a bargain in which you rarely ever get him at.
WR Adam Humphries ($4.9K)
Humphries has proven to be a viable option in any fantasy football format and the matchup and price is fantastic here. He’ll be going against a Saints team who is prone to getting into shootouts and his Buccaneers squad won’t shy away from a high-scoring game. Humphries will not have Desean Jackson in front of him again paving the way to add on to his three-game touchdown streak. He has five in as many games showing he just has a knack for finding the end zone. Getting a guy this likely to score with a great matchup at a cost under 5k is too hard to ignore.
RB David Johnson ($6.5K)
DJ is far better than the 10th best running back in the league but that is where he is priced at this week. The Lions defense is mediocre at absolute best and that’s being very generous. Rookie coach Steve Wilks seems to finally be leaning on one of the few guys who can be a workhorse back in the current NFL landscape. He hasn’t found the end zone the last two weeks but has gotten at least 20 total touches in each of the last four games. The Lions D is ranked 22nd against opposing running backs on DraftKings and a home matchup against a Detroit team traveling west gives Johnson a great shot at 100 yards and at least one score.
Jeff Wilson Jr. ($3.8K)
While everyone and their mother will be playing Steelers’ running back Jaylen Samuels on Sunday, a way to be sort of contrarian will be to fade Samuel and plays Jeff Wilson Jr. of the 49ers. I say sort of because Wilson Jr. is only 3.8K, so ownership will be high on him as well, just hopefully not as high as Samuel. Wilson had 61 rushing yards last week against the Seahawks, but his ability as a pass catcher is what has me interested. He caught eight of his nine targets for 73 yards last week.
Sterling Shepard ($4K)
Odell Beckham Jr. will miss Sunday’s game with a bruised quad. Many season-long fantasy owners are pissed off, but for DFS players, there is an opportunity here. That opportunity is named Sterling Shepard. He is just 4K and will be the Giants’ No. 1 WR against the Redskins at home. He is dealing with a rib injury he suffered last week against the Bears. That is something to monitor, but I will have plenty of Shepard this week at his low price point.
Rob Gronkowski ($4.8K)
Disclaimer – I’m locking Zach Ertz into the tight end position this week. Still, I will have some Gronk, who has never been priced this low on DK. For the first time in a while, Gronk is not on the Patriots’ injury report. There are concerns about his overall play this season though. In the last nine games, Gronk has caught just two touchdowns. However, his high snap count and consistent involvement tell me it’s only a matter of time before he breaks out. In Miami, Gronk has his best game of the 2018 season.
